Research Interview

Assignment
You may choose to conduct an interview to supplement your bibliographic research, though this is not a required assignment for the research project.  A qualifying interview (1) is conducted in person or by telephone, (2) lasts at least 15 minutes, and (3) involves either an individual personally involved in the religious community you are studying or a scholar with specific expertise in that religious tradition.

To receive credit for a qualifying interview, write a report describing the experience and explaining how it has contributed to your research project.
Bear in mind the general guidelines explained on the research project assignment page as well as the methodology and significance you identified in your research abstract.

Give your interview report an original and fitting title, with capitalization that follows academic conventions:  in general, capitalize the first word of the title (and subtitle, if applicable) as well as all subsequent words except articles, conjunctions, and prepositions.

Use a word processor to draft your report, with single-spaced paragraphs and an extra paragraph break between paragraphs (like the layout of this webpage).  Be sure to save a copy for your own records.

Submission
Post your interview report by following these instructions:

Go to the homepage for this course's ezboard community.

Click on the "Research Interviews" forum under the "Research Projects" category heading.

Click on the "New Topic" button.

Copy-and-paste your title from your word processor to the "Subject" box.  Copy-and-paste your report from your word processor to the "Comment" box.

Be sure there is a blank line (an extra paragraph break) between paragraphs.  If  you want to double-check your spelling, click on the "Spell Check" button.

Click on the "Add Post" button.

Verify that your interview report was posted by clicking on its title (in the "Topic" column).

You can edit any of your own posts by clicking on the "Edit Post" (checkmark) button.  If you accidentally post your work in the wrong place, correct this using the edit function by deleting the contents of the "Comment" box and entering "ERROR" in the "Subject" box.

Criteria
A satisfactory research interview meets the following criteria:

Substantive essay demonstrating your understanding of the interview and your critical engagement with it.

Polished prose not burdened by distracting errors:  each word spelled and used correctly; each sentence built on proper punctuation and grammar; each paragraph addressing a coherent and unified point; the entire essay offering an organized exposition of your topic.

At least 300 words of text.

This assignment is worth 15 points.

Gradebook
